The second is the SI base unit of time. Minutes, hours, days and weeks are fixed multiples of it. Months and years are not fixed in the calendar, so this converter uses averages: a year of 365.25 days (the Julian year used in astronomy) and a month of one twelfth of that, about 30.44 days.
